Dolling Survey

Mon Jan 5, 2009, 8:25 PM
Stole from :iconpackagedbliss: who also stole it from Cha :iconchaliosa:
But I also saw it on :iconbunnystick: :iconmistress-jaeden:

1. How long have YOU been dolling?
Mid 2003 to Late 2007. I haven't really finished anything since then. I mean, I have looked at stuff and added a pixel here and there, but nothing more than 5 minutes and then going "gee, I don't really feel like doing this right now" ... so until I get in the groove again, I'll just leave it at Late 2007.

2. You have to like something about it; what is it? [Why] do you enjoy dolling?
I like creating stuff and watching it fall together. And picking colors. Picking colors is fun.

3. What do you HATE [about] dolling, eh? You know, clothes, hair...
Right now... finishing! But in all truth, I have trouble accessorizing. I always feel like I add too much or too little and then I get frazzled because then all the loverly shading I did is moot once I add a lot of accessories because they have shadows and then there's shading them, but if I add them before, I always look at the clothing and am like "gahh! how the *beep* do I shade these 5 pixels actually showing of the shirt!"

4. Your favorite part of your dolls, usually is:
Backgrounds XD But if we mean the actual doll, I'd say (when I have them) long skirts.

5. What do you put the most effort into: clothes/hair/stuff..or base editing?
It's been awhile... I don't quiet remember what I put a lot of effort into. Trying not to make it suck? XD Nah, probably shading stuff without making it look like 1 color once I un-zoomed XD So I guess that would be selecting colors. I spent a lot of time going through colors after I finished shading all zoomed.

6. Bases are a staple of the dolling community. Do you like using them, or do you prefer to go baseless?
I like using them. Whenever I tried baseless, the proportions would make Barbie look normal.

7. Not all dollers are basemakers..are you?
I've fiddled in base making. Dunno how good they were. I spent so much time working on the base, that I always had a hard time using it when I was done. It was like "dang it! I spent like 3 hours shading that bust, like *beep* I want to cover it" and so I'd just go find a new base x_x

8. Are you part of any dolling forums?
Nope. Well, I think I'm registered at some, but since EE went bye-bye I haven't joined any new communities. Or rather, I haven't been active in any dolling communities. But that might be more because I was on my dolling lag before EE went down so I figured "meh, no reason to join any new forums".

9. This community can suck ass sometimes. List for us FOUR pet peeves when it comes to the doll community:

:pointr: CHANGING YOUR *BEEPING* URL EVERY YEAR. Get a DA, get a journal, get a something you won't change every time you change your underwear. Keeping up with base makers who keep site hopping kills me.
:pointr: Pixel vs. Tool Shading. It's been awhile since I've been in the community, but the PvT thing is a matter of preference. (Dunno if it's still a big deal)
:pointr: Newbies who make their first dolls in MSPaint and think that PSP or Photoshop will automatically make their dolls like 10x better. Same with tablets. They're just tools. There's more than one way to skin a cat. Same with dolling, there's more than one way to make a doll and still make it good.
:pointr: When there would be a collab and people would be like "Oh, that group has all my idols in it! They're totally going to beat us". Or when one person would drop from the group because they didn't like one thing.

AND four things you like about the community:

:pointr: COLLABS!
:pointr: Sisters :) Even if I haven't talked to them in forevers. I still think about them (and lurk on their journals).
:pointr: Availability of resources, you can find tutorials for a lot of things, and even if you cant, somebody might have something they can help you with.
:pointr: Well, when I was a staffer at Eden, I loved the events and planning them and stuff. I also enjoy participating in events, but I LOVE planning them. Even if it took me forever x_x

10. But there's awesome people here, too! List three of your favorite dollers.
This question stinks. I haven't looked at many dolls except whatever pops up on my watch list. I like(d) a lot of dollers. I guess I'll just say "I l0v3 j00 all!11!" and leave it at that.
